To Teach …

We are all teachers, each of us instructing
in our own way. We teach by our actions.
We teach by our inaction.
We teach as babies. And we teach as elders.
Teachers. We come in all sizes,
shapes and backgrounds.

In a myriad of ways, we are, each,
taught how to live, how “ to be ” ,
by all that exists. This we understand
when we consider each metaphor and/or
simile we've ever used or heard to describe
the human condition (e.g. - He ' s a rock .
She ' s the wind beneath my wings .
Her continence was as bright as the sun.
I felt like a balloon after I ate!... etc.)
Therefore, all things and all beings teach.
For, as we know, descriptions are
generally expressed with a sense of
the knowledge of its relationship to
its intent in order to conjure and
strengthen the inner visual;
instructing the mind to understand
more poignantly by using the images of
all that has impacted our senses in order
to make a point. So it seems,
that with all existence teaching all existence,
we, then, share responsibility for each other-
directly or indirectly … .even the rock and the wind.
We are responsible for that which exists
in our immediate surroundings; and more broadly,
for that which exist in the world at large.
For teaching always comes with a
sense of responsibility unknowingly or not,
whether we like it or not, with or without intention.

To Teach was originally written & designed with professional educators in mind. It's intent- to applaud teachers for their work in educating our children; to encourage teachers to stay the course and to continue to teach our students through the more difficult periods and trials of education, and; to always remember that we teach our students about who and what we are in the context of what we do more than what we know.
